Vigil for peace

Every year since 2001, a group of Cannon Beach residents have kept a vigil in front of Whale Park for peace.

On Saturday, Jan. 12, Wes Wahrmund, Jan Siebert-Wahrmund, Susan Glarum and Darrell Clukey continued their tradition.

"We have been here every saturday for 17 years, 1/2 hour every day since 9/11 happened," Jan Siebert-Wahrmund said. " We stand for encouraging peace in the world within and without."

Response has changed over the years, she said.

“In the beginning, When we first started standing in 2001, it was a vey different response people were not as positive about it. But over the years, it's become very different and people seem to be glad we're here.”
