To rebuild a forest

Lower Nehalem Community Trust volunteers plant trees on Neahkahnie Mountain.

Led by the Lower Nehalem Community Trust’s Stewardship Coordinator Shane Sjogren and Community trust board member Carl Vandevoort and 17 volunteers from the lower Nehalem community gathered to begin reforesting their newly acquired Headwaters property on Neahkahnie Mountain's south slope.

The trust took title to the 111-acre parcel in late September. Thirty acres had been logged in summer of 2017 by the donors to the trust.

Volunteers replanted Sitka spruce and western Hemlock from locally sourced plants provided by the Northwest Oregon Restoration Partnership.
