Joe Warren

Hello Cannon Beach, I’m Joe Warren the new publisher of the Cannon Beach Gazette. I can’t wait to make the rounds and meet everyone.

My company, Country Media, officially took over the Cannon Beach Gazette from our friends at EO Media Group, more specifically The Daily Astorian, May 1.

We could not be happier to have this paper back in our family of Oregon newspapers.

Country Media owns half a dozen newspapers located in northwestern Oregon along with their related websites.

Steve and Carol Hungerford, the principal shareholders and managers of the company began adding newspapers in Oregon when they first bought the Cannon Beach Gazette in 2006, so Cannon Beach is a very special place for them. In fact, Cannon Beach was the Hungerfords first Oregon residence after they relocated from the Midwest in the same year.

While living in Cannon Beach, Carol served as president of the Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors and was an active volunteer with the “Stormy Weather Arts Festival” and “Sandcastle Days” events among other community activities.

In 2013, Country Media sold the newspaper to EO Media Group as part of a transaction involving multiple properties, and now the Gazette is back in the fold.

I’m a veteran newsman with more than 30 years of experience in the business ranging from Montana, Iowa, Texas, New Mexico and Oregon.

County Media’s other Oregon newspapers include the North Coast Citizen in Manzanita, The Tillamook Headlight Herald, the Lincoln City New Guard, the St. Helens Chronicle and The Chief in Clatskanie.

We have a very good team put together to serve the community of Cannon Beach. Katherine Mace, who lived in Cannon Beach for more than 12 years, will me taking care of advertising. Cody Mann will be handling the news, Brian Cameron and Stephania Baumgart will be in charge of graphic arts and I’ll be doing a little of everything.

You may reach out to me by email at or by phone at 503-842-7535. Katherine is at the same number or you can also email her with marketing questions at And you can send news tips to Cody at headlightnews@

We’re happy to be back in the Cannon Beach Community and we’re ready to serve you. I could not be more excited to take on this new venture on the coast.
