Thompson strong representative
To the editor,
Clatsop County needs intelligent, strong leaders who are not beholden to special interests when they take office.
In the recent election for Clatsop County Commissioners, Lianne Thompson was outspent by more than 2 to 1. While the majority of Lianne’s campaign contributions were small ones from individuals living in her district, her opponent received over half of his contributions from only four large industries: Stimson Lumber Co., Teevin Brothers Land and Timber Co., Hampton Affiliates and Warrenton Fiber Co. Yet Lianne Thompson garnered the most citizen votes.
Because of errors in the county elections office, all District 5 residents will have the opportunity to vote again for who will best represent them as a Clatsop County Commissioner. Ballots will be due by Sept. 16.
I hope the residents of South County will remember Lianne’s community service as a leader and trainer for the Community Emergency Response Team and not be snowed by expensive mailings from the opponent. I hope the voters will focus on Lianne’s experience as a Clatsop County Planning Commissioner and not be influenced by negative hit pieces.
Lianne Thompson will be an intelligent, strong and independent representative for South County residents and a quality addition to the Clatsop County Commission.
