As a long time full time resident of Cannon Beach, I have questions regarding the proposed Food Tax the City is pushing to get passed. The information of how much revenue will be collected from the restaurants, what those funds will be used for by the City and how the tax revenue will be split with the CBFD seem to change depending on who is giving the information and having another City meeting. Let alone all the fear mongering regarding the Fire Department. And have just now come to learn that the City in the 11th hour had the City Council pass an IGA giving them (the City) full control of appropriating funds to the CBFD after deducting for Administrative costs, Clerk costs, Attorney fees, Levies, Bonds, Annexation and also any expenses or costs incurred by the CBFD must be authorized by the City. Yet there doesn’t seem to be any oversight for how the City will be spending their share of the Meal Tax revenue. The City has also authorized itself to audit restaurants and put a lien on the business if the Auditor (who ever that turns out to be) decides the restaurant is not paying enough in Meal Tax. And lastly, it will take an enormous number of Halibut dinners sold at 5% tax to reach the 17 to 32 million dollars the City is salivating to collect.

I am voting NO MEAL TAX. I pray the majority do as well.
