City of Seaside

On Sunday May 22, 2022, at approximately 3:46 p.m., the Seaside Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a child being struck by a car near the area of 1575 S. Roosevelt. Upon officer arrival, the child had already been taken to the hospital by family members. Seaside officers investigated the crash scene and also responded to Providence Seaside Hospital.

At the scene, officers learned that the three-year-old child had run into traffic from a nearby home and was struck by the side of a southbound car. The involved driver stated that the child darted into the roadway and there was no time to react, but the driver began to turn the car left in an attempt to maneuver away from the child. The driver reported the child struck the passenger side of the vehicle, including the mirror assembly.

Officers spoke with an uninvolved witness who had been traveling northbound at the time of the crash.  The witness described seeing the child run into the southbound lane of travel and did not believe the involved driver had time to react. The same witness explained that the child was struck on the passenger side of the southbound vehicle and did not believe the child was run over by the vehicle but deflected away upon impact.

The child sustained serious injuries and was later transported by helicopter to a Portland area hospital.  Seaside Police learned this afternoon that the child is expected to make a full recovery.

Names of those involved in the crash are being withheld at this time as the Seaside Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Officer Brown with the Seaside Police Department. Brown can be reached at (503) 738-6311.
