The Audubon Society of Portland, Friends of Cape Falcon, Haystack Rock Awareness Project, and other partners are initiating a citizen science project in the summer of 2016 to monitor seabird nesting colonies next to the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve in order to better understand how seabirds may respond to the new protections. Study species are Brandt’s and pelagic cormorants in the Devil’s Cauldron area and Haystack Rock. Volunteers are sought twice a month, three to four hours each visit.
