Tami Bellingham is a member of the Rose City Labrador Retriever Club, a not-for-profit organization licensed by the American Kennel Club and a member of the Master National Retriever Club.
On March 10, club members from all over Oregon and Washington participated in a training day on her property in north Gearhart.
“We were joined by trainers Bruce McPhearson and Pandyce McCluer for tips and instruction,” Bellingham said.
At the Gearhart event, the 10 dogs, between five months and five years, training were primarily former show dogs working toward junior hunt certification. Training took place on water and land, and for some of the dogs, this was a first-time experience.
“I’ve always had dogs,” Bellingham said over bacon and eggs at Grandma’s in Gearhart. “I’ve had Labs for 30 years. I’ve always done training with them in obedience, rally, conformation.”
She currently has three dogs, Jewell, 8; Bindi, 3; and Bonner Blue, 2.
Bonner Blue holds the title of No. 1 Labrador in Oregon, 2018. Jewell is Bindi’s mother.
This year marks Bellingham’s third year with the Rose City Labrador Retriever Club. She said the club has a specialty event coming up in July at Champoeg State Park in St. Paul.
Of the training day in Gearhart, Bellingham said, “Everybody loved it and it was such a fun day. You could say it was ‘pup-spacular.’”
