The puffin

The elusive puffin remains an iconic symbol of Cannon Beach.

The Haystack Rock Awareness Program presents their summer block party in the Cannon Beach City Hall Saturday, July 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. Kicking off the festivities, Jonathan White, author of “Tides: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean,” will speak about his study of tides across the globe and sharing the amazing stories he gathered along the way.

Other entertainment will include face painting, food, and live music. HRAP interpreters will be available to answer questions about Haystack Rock, how the sea stars are doing, and about the puffin population. The party is free, but donations to the program will be accepted. RSVP on Facebook.

The Haystack Rock Awareness Program, in its 33rd season on the beach, aims to protect through education the intertidal and bird ecology of the Marine Garden and National Wildlife Refuge at Haystack Rock.
