CAPE FALCON — The body of Joseph McDonald Lescene was found Tuesday morning after washing ashore on Short Sands Beach in Oswald West State Park.

Lescene, 51, of British Columbia, was hiking with his wife near Devil’s Cauldron Sunday when he reportedly lost his footing and fell about 800 feet to the water below. Others sightseeing in the area heard his wife Sarah Jones Lescene’s distress on the trail and contacted 911.

No foul play is suspected.

Lescene had retired from the Royal Canadian Navy prior to taking a civilian job. According to a gofundme page to raise funds for the family, he and his wife were on an annual getaway to the Oregon Coast.]

The Oregon State Police and Nehalem Bay Fire and rescue responded to the area. Lescene was positively identified after assistance from the Tillamook County Medical Examiner.
