Three horses received only minor injuries after the trailer they were riding in overturned on Highway 101, south of Cannon Beach, on Thursday.

Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue Chief Mike Balzer said the accident happened between Hug Point and Arcadia Beach around 4:30 p.m.

The trailer came undone from a northbound truck and landed in the ditch. Balzer said emergency personnel shut down traffic in both lanes for about 20 minutes “so we didn’t spook the horses while trying to get them out.”

The driver was uninjured, and a second trailer was driven out to collect the animals, he added.

Responders had to flip the trailer over to get it out. Gary’s Cannon Beach Service Center, Inc. did the towing.
