5:47 a.m. Jefferson and Spruce streets: traffic roads. Light casing for power pole fell and shattered on roadway. Pacific Power and public works notified.

8:41 a.m. Logan Lane and beach: assistance provided to Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue. Received a report of an unknown item found on the beach off the foot path at Logan Lane. Reporting party said it was cylindrical and marked with “Hazardous, contact police or military personnel.” Officer Collins was dispatched along with fire and rescue and located the device. Fire and rescue Capt. Matt Gardner said he recognized the device as a radio position beacon used by the U.S. Coast Guard. He contacted USCG Air Station Astoria and advised them of its location.

Dec. 24

1:14 a.m. U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 31: assistance provided to Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office. Disabled vehicle at milepost 31. Helped transport some of the occupants to a local motel.

3:11 p.m. 600 block of Ecola Park Road: suspicious circumstances. Multiple sounds consistent with gunshots and explosions heard. Officers Collins and Bowman checked Ecola Park Road, Antler Road, Elm Street, Beech Street, Sixth Street, old U.S. Highway 101 and U.S. Highway 101 but were unable to locate.

8:07 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 32: motor vehicle accident.

Dec. 25

4:33 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 at Sunset Boulevard: traffic complaint. Complaint of motorist blocking highway because of elk. Traffic resumed flow upon arrival.

11:56 p.m. 200 block of Siuslaw Street: warrant arrest. Subject contacted for overnight camping violation. Subject fled on foot during contact. Subject quickly located after having fallen into beach run-off. Subject was identified and discovered to have warrant. Subject was arrested on the warrant and transported to Clatsop County Jail.

Dec. 27

11:07 p.m. Second and Larch streets: camping within city limits.

Dec. 28

9:21 a.m. 3400 block of South Hemlock Street: report of counterfeit bill. Officer examined bill and took it into custody.

10:56 p.m. Sewer ponds: camping within city limits. Subject(s) warned for unlawful lodging.

Dec. 29

12:05 p.m. Klootchy Creek and U.S. Highway 26: assistance provided to other agencies. Officer responded for report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash. Officer assisted Oregon State Police, Seaside Fire and Rescue, the Oregon Department of Transportation and Medix with traffic control. One patient was transported to Providence Seaside Hospital.

4:52 p.m. 400 block of Crescent Court: fugitive. During briefing, officer found subject had a valid warrant for his arrest. Went to subject’s residence, and he was taken to Clatsop County Jail without incident where officer read him the warrant, and he was turned over to jail staff.

7:46 p.m. Sandpiper Square: suspicious circumstances. Received report of a male acting suspiciously outside Sandpiper Square. Officer arrived and observed various personal items strewn about from a duffel bag. Reporting party said there was a male, mid-50s, with a coat and hat in the area that was making her uncomfortable. She said that he left as officer arrived. Officer escorted reporting party to her vehicle, then returned to Sandpiper Square. Male had returned. Officer determined that he lived in Seaside. Officer provided him a courtesy ride to his home, where he was met by other residents who said he did not live there. They also said, as the officer observed, that subject had some mental health issues, but they assured he was not a danger.

8:27 p.m. 371 Spruce Street: assistance provided to Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue. Fire and rescue dispatched to a report of natural gas smell. Officer located fire personnel and turned off faulty appliance.

9:01 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 at Hug Point: assistance provided to another agency. Officer dispatched to a report of a male lying on the shoulder of the road just north of Hug Point. Arrived and found Clatsop County Deputy Robert Townsend on the scene. Male known to him. Male taken by Medix to Providence Seaside Hospital while officer assisted with traffic control.

Dec. 30

5:20 a.m. Les Shirley Park: camping within city limits. Overnight camper at Les Shirley Park. Advised of code. Moved.

9:28 a.m. Chapman Point: assistance rendered. Officer assisted female citizen in locating and reuniting her with her son, who had walked up Chapman Point and disappeared.

Dec. 31

1:10 p.m. U.S. Highway 101 at U.S. Junction 26: single-vehicle roll over crash. Driver was cited for careless driving.

Jan. 1

12:13 a.m. Beach at Tolovana: fireworks offense. Report of fireworks on beach. Accessed beach from Warren Way as mortar went off. Officer confiscated remaining mortars and tube from suspect, who received a warning.

3:18 p.m. Haystack Rock: code violation. Officer arrived on scene and issued verbal warnings to three individuals.

Jan. 3

3:07 p.m. 168 East Gower Street: Officer was contacted by citizen regarding missing person. Officer took information regarding missing person and contact information. A case has already been opened in Washington County. Missing person has been found deceased.
