Cannon Beach Academy students were released for the Summer Break earlier in the month-sandy beaches and sunny days are on the minds of most kids. The administration is busy already planning for the next school year and has opened enrollment for the 2019/2020 school year.
And you better not hesitate on signing up your student because according to Amy Fredrickson, school director, there are only three spots left until the school is at full capacity.
“This is very exciting for us to be at almost full capacity,” she said “If we get full we will have to start a lottery.”
The lottery is used when the school is at capacity and there are families who want to enroll their child. If an opening comes up, then a drawing is used to determine who get in.
“It’s a lottery not a first-come-first-served senerio,” added Fredrickson.
School begins Tuesday (Sept. 3) after Labor Day this year and is adding classes through the fifth grade.
Cannon Beach Academy offers a full day Kindergarten program for all students in this grade. For the 2019-20 school year, classes start at 8 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesdays are early release, which is at 2 p.m. Classes are limited to 25 students per teacher; for 2019-20 the Academy has a maximum of 75-students limit before the lottery system is put in place.
Students entering Kindergarten each year must be 5-year-old on or before September 1st of the school year.
All students who reside in the state of Oregon are eligible for admission to The Cannon Beach Academy. Oregon Charter School law allows students to apply to the school from outside the school district without an interdistrict transfer.
Applications are accepted after January 1st of each year for the following school year.
As per our Charter School Agreement, priority will be given to students as follows:
• Current students
• Students residing in the Seaside School District
• Siblings of current students
• Out of district students
For each grade, the student applications are divided into two groups: In-District and Out-of-District. Once the lottery is conducted, all students who have been selected for admission will be notified. The remaining students will be placed on a wait list in the event of future openings.
Applications will still be accepted after the first lottery. These applications will be drawn on May 1st and June 1st and will be added to the current wait list.
