Viewers of the popular live osprey nest camera in Broadway Park, which is operated by the Necanicum Watershed Council, awoke to a surprise on the morning of April 25. This was the first egg of the season.

Osprey lay 1-4 eggs per brood and only have one brood per season, so more eggs are expected over the coming days. Eggs incubate for 36-42 days before they hatch – so the first chick could hatch as early as Memorial Day.

You can view the live feed and follow the action at or on the website at You can also follow the Necanicum Watershed Council on Facebook for updates on the nest and ways you can participate in gathering data on these fascinating birds.
