Auditions for musical
The Astor Street Opry Company will hold auditions for its annual spring musical, "Quilters," written by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, on Tuesday, March 9 at 6 p.m. at the ASOC Playhouse in Astoria. Instrumental improv class
Etiquette theory and the technique of Faking It. Any acoustic instrument is welcome. The workshop is Saturday, March 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Tolovana Hall and will be followed by an improvisational concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. featuring local musicans and students. Wind symphony
The Whitworth Wind Symphony will perform in Cannon Beach on Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church as part of its spring concert tour. Young Artist contest
Young musicians in Washington, Oregon and Idaho are invited to vie for a scholarship and a chance to perform on stage at Benaroya Hall during the third annual Ten Grands concert on May 21. The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is part of the grand prize that awaits the winner of 98.1 Classical KING FM's "Ten Grands Young Artist Awards." Competition deadline has been extended to March 12. Hollywood Musicals
Cannon Beach Film Festival 2010 is June 4 through 6 at the Coaster Theatre in Cannon Beach. The theme of the 2010 festival is Hollywood Musicals. Beginning with a Friday evening wine reception, the festival will offer a weekend of fun, film, and music. There is no charge for admission, but donations are welcome. Floating Glass Balls
Local band the Floating Glass Balls performs live at Bill's Tavern on Thursdays. The band sets up at Bill's around 8 p.m. most Thursdays and plays its signature "beach grass" tunes until 10 p.m.
Music at Sand Trap
Free, live music is at the Sand Trap throughout the month starting at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, March 17 is the Beerman Creek String Band; Thursday, March 25 is Will West and the Friendly Strangers; Friday, March 26, McMenamins and opbmusic.org present Great Northwest Music Tour, the Portland Cello Project: cellos playing the universe. On Saturday, March 27, McMenamins Sand Trap celebrates its second anniversary with live music all day, starting at 11 a.m. with the Floating Glass Balls. The Sand Trap is located at 1157 N.
