Market opens to large, steady, eager crowds

After the ring of a bell and a round of applause, the 2009 Cannon Beach Farmers Market season got underway June 16.
More than 1,500 visitors came out for the 2 to 6 p.m. opening market. It was a time for meeting some new vendors, getting reacquainted with the old, and stocking up on the strawberries, cheese, meats, plant starts and other offerings, including a new prepared-food component.
