HRAP lecture
A free lecture on the "Impact of Climate Changes on the Oregon Coast" is planned at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at the Cannon Beach Library, 131 N. Hemlock St. Bob Bailey, the coastal program manager for the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, will discuss how he deals with the impact of climate changes on the Oregon coast. CB Bloodmobile
Every year the President proclaims March to be Red Cross Month. Please help celebrate by coming to the Bloodmobile on Thursday, March 4, at the Christian Conference Center in Cannon Beach from 1 p.m. till 6 p.m.
Your donation will also be a celebration for someone who needs a transfusion to be able to celebrate the coming of another spring. Haitian culture
Clatsop Community College TRiO students invite the public to attend a presentation about Haitian culture, before and after the recent earthquake, on Friday, March 5 at noon in the Columbia Hall, Room 221, Astoria. TRiO programs help low-income and/or first-generation American students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. Necanicum bird day
The fourth annual Necanicum Bird Discovery Day is Saturday, March 6 at the Bob Chisholm Community Center in Seaside. The main activities are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with presentations by Mike Patterson and Sharnelle Fee. Coastal climate change
Coastal natural hazards expert Pat Corcoran presents "Climate Change and the North Coast-Creating Resilient Ecosystems and Communities" on Thursday, March 11 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita. The talk is sponsored by the Lower Nehalem Watershed Council. In his presentation, Corcoran will focus on climate change and its impact on the Oregon coast. Northwest Author Series
Tod Davies, author of "Jam Today," speaks at the Cannon Beach Library on Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m. as part of the Northwest Author Series. Davies has been a screenwriter, film producer, radio food-show host, and independent publisher. She thinks if you want the world to be a better place, you should start by making sure everyone around you is well fed, and then work from there. Roll On, Columbia
On Saturday, March 13 starting at 2 p.m., the Columbian Theater at 1102 Marine Dr. in Astoria will present a series of documentary films about the Columbia River. Plant identification
The Lower Nehalem Community Trust is hosting a one day workshop on plant identification on Saturday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alder Creek Farm in Manzanita. Led by BLM botanist Kurt Heckeroth, the day will focus on identifying both native and non-native plants on the property. All are welcome. Bring a magnifying glass, sack lunch and waterproof boots. Cannon Beach reads
The monthly Cannon Beach Library book discussion club meets Wednesday, March 17 at the library at 7 p.m. The discussion will be about "The Forever War," by Dexter Filkins, a New York Times reporter rated among the finest correspondents covering the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is a series of vignettes based on his work there since 1998. The library discussion group is informal and allows for a wide range of opinions. Goldberg competition
The annual Rube Goldberg Machine Competition at Seaside High School will be on Wednesday, March 17 at the High School at 7 p.m. This year's competition is building an automatic hand sanitizer dispenser. The public is invited to watch this fun and flashy event.
